About this video: Megaways slots explained
We spin a six-reel Megaways slot so you can watch the reel heights change. Then we count the ways to win: 2 × 5 × 3 × 7 × 4 × 6 gives 5,040 ways, and seven symbols on every reel gives the maximum of 117,649. You also see a win build from left to right, and a cascade where new symbols drop in and the multiplier climbs.
Finally, it explains why more ways doesn’t mean better odds. Megaways RTPs are usually 95% to 96.5%, the same as other slots. What changes is volatility: long runs of small or losing spins, then the odd big win.

Let’s see how Megaways slots work, with a live example.
This is a Megaways slot, and it has six reels. Watch how many symbols each reel shows, because it changes on every single spin.
To count the ways to win, you multiply the reel heights together. Here that’s two, five, three, seven, four and six. Multiply them all, and you get five thousand and forty ways.
When every reel shows seven symbols, you hit the maximum: one hundred and seventeen thousand, six hundred and forty-nine ways.
A win needs matching symbols on reels next to each other, starting from the left. They can sit in any position on each reel. So here, a seven on reels one, two and three is a win.
After a win, the winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in from above. That can make another win from the same spin. And in free spins, a multiplier often goes up with every cascade.
But more ways doesn’t mean better odds. The RTP is usually ninety-five to ninety-six and a half percent, just like other slots. What changes is the volatility, so you get lots of small or losing spins, and then the odd big win.
So, three simple tips. Check the RTP in the game info, pick a stake that lets your budget last, and don’t chase the bonus round. You can watch volatility in action in our free RTP and volatility simulator.
