Blackjack tips for UK players
No hole card tables
At many UK online tables the dealer takes a second card only after everyone has played. If the dealer then has blackjack, you can lose your doubles and splits too. So against a dealer 10 or Ace, don’t double 11, and hit rather than split 8s. Turn off “Dealer checks for blackjack” above to see the changes.
Avoid 6:5 blackjack
A natural blackjack should pay 3:2 (£15 on a £10 bet). Tables paying 6:5 (£12) add around 1.4% to the house edge, more than every other rule on this page combined.
Side bets cost more
Perfect Pairs, 21+3 and similar side bets usually carry a far higher house edge than the main game. Basic strategy only covers your main hand. See our house edge guide.
Bonuses and blackjack
Most UK casino offers count blackjack at 10% or less towards wagering, and some exclude it. Read the terms before playing blackjack with bonus funds. Our guide to wagering requirements explains how this works.
Basic strategy lowers the house edge, but it doesn’t remove it. Read more in our blackjack basic strategy guide.
