RTP vs volatility

RTP (return to player) is the share of stakes a slot pays back over a very long run. Volatility is how that return is paid out. Low volatility means lots of small wins and a balance that moves slowly. High volatility means long dry runs and the odd big win.

Try the same RTP with low and then high volatility. The expected result is identical, but the spread of outcomes is completely different.

Questions

Is a higher RTP always better?

On average, yes: it costs less to play. But volatility decides how bumpy the ride is, and that matters for how long a budget lasts.

Where do I find a slot’s RTP?

In the game’s info or help screen. Some slots come in several RTP versions, so check the figure at the casino you’re using.
