About this video: Why UK casinos ask for ID
We go through a UK casino sign-up on screen: entering your name, address and date of birth, the automatic check that confirms you’re over 18, and what happens if you’re asked to upload a photo ID and proof of address.
It also covers financial checks, such as a payslip or bank statement, why the name on your payment method must match your account, and why withdrawals usually go back to the card you deposited with. Last, it explains why you should only upload documents inside your account and never by email.

Let’s walk through casino ID checks, step by step.
When you sign up at a UK licensed casino, you’ll enter your name, your address and your date of birth.
The casino has to check these details before you can deposit or play. It’s the law, and it’s there to stop under-eighteens and fraud. Most of the time, the check happens automatically, in just a few seconds.
If the automatic check can’t confirm who you are, you’ll be asked to upload a few documents. Usually that’s a photo ID, like a passport or driving licence. And a proof of address, like a recent bank statement or utility bill.
Later on, the casino may ask about your finances, for example with a payslip or a bank statement, especially if you deposit larger amounts. These checks help make sure your spending is affordable.
The name on your account has to match your payment method. And withdrawals usually go back to the same card or account you deposited with.
Only ever upload documents inside your account, on the casino’s own website. Never email them to someone who contacts you claiming to be a casino.
So, three simple tips. Use your real details, upload clear photos that show the whole document, and get verified before you ask for a withdrawal. And for help weighing up offers and game costs, try our free casino tools.
