Free spins explained: how to get the most from them

Free spins are the most common casino welcome offer in the UK — usually in the form “wager £10, get 100 free spins”. They’re simple, but a few details change their value a lot.

1. Spin value

Most spins are worth 10p each, so 100 spins means £10 of stakes. A handful of offers use 20p or higher spins. Always multiply the number of spins by the spin value — 50 spins at 20p is the same stake as 100 at 10p.

2. Eligible games

Spins are almost always locked to one or two slots. The game’s RTP (return to player) tells you roughly how much of that £10 you can expect back over time — typically £9.40–£9.70 on a 94–97% RTP slot.

3. Wagering on winnings

“No wagering” spins pay winnings as cash. If winnings carry wagering (for example 10x), you’ll need to play through that amount first, which reduces the real value.

4. Expiry

Spins usually need to be claimed and used within 24 hours to 7 days — some are released in daily batches. Set a reminder so you don’t lose them.

5. The qualifying bet

“Wager £10” offers mean you have to stake £10 of your own cash on eligible games first. That qualifying play carries its own house edge, so factor it in. Offers where you only need to deposit (not wager) are usually lower risk.

Our tips

  • Pick offers with no wagering on spin winnings wherever you can.
  • Play the qualifying stake on a higher-RTP slot if the terms allow a choice.
  • Don’t chase: once your offer is complete, you’re free to stop.
